With her maiden solo effort "The Gal Who Would Be King", Jill Olson comes into her own as an artist taking her rightful place in the top echelon of U.S. singer/songwriters. Already critics have dubbed her sound "Patsy Cline does Revolver!". As a singer, songwriter and bass virtuoso, Jill Olson has accomplished more during her brief time as a performer than most will in a lifetime. Her freshman outfit, folk-pop trio The Stouthhearted, saw their first EP voted Top 10 of Village Voice's Annual Critics Poll. Soon thereafter, Jill formed the popular Bay area ban The Movie Stars, a multi-influenced acoustic pop band that featured accordion, pedal steel and bouzouki. The Movie Stars had two well received indie LP's and built a large following through extensive touring (as well as contributing a breathtaking version of "I Can't See Nobody" to eggBERT's Bee Gees Tribute "Melody Fair"). After, the Stars dissolved Jill moved on to join English singer/songwriter John Wesley Harding for a U.S. tour which include a memorable performance onJay Leno's Tonight Show. In her spare moments Jill still finds time to perform with her good friend (and Academy Award Nominee) Mare Winningham. Perfecting a combined blend of Liverpool and Nashville, "The Gal Who Would Be King" works perfectly in the AAA/Americana format which has taken solid hold in the U.S. Jill Olson is now ready to rule the world and conquer the AAA airwaves.
